Munnar

Of Waterfalls, Valleys, and Tea

Munnar is a charming town and picturesque hill station in Kerala's Western Ghats. Located at an elevation of 6000 feet in the Idukki region, it was the summer retreat of British rulers during colonial times. It is famous for its green belt of lush woods, endless tea farms, and being home to endangered animal species such as the Neelakurinji and Nilgiri Tahr. It is among the most popular tourist attractions in South India due to its clean valleys, mountains, and diverse flora and wildlife.

March-June: In Munnar, March heralds the arrival of summer. The weather is still good, with temperatures ranging from 19 to 35 degrees Celsius. This is an excellent time to visit Munnar for sightseeing and exploring tea estates.

July-September: Monsoons in Munnar have their own allure, with lush green foliage covering the hillsides.

How to reach?

By Air

Munnar does not have its own airport. The nearest airport, Cochin International Airport, is 110 kilometers away by car. Further still, about 140 kilometers from Munnar, is Madurai International Airport. You can take a cab, state transportation, or private buses to Munnar.

By Train

Munnar is well-connected to big and small towns of India. The nearest railway station to Munnar is 110 kilometers away in Aluva. The Ernakulam Railway Station is 130 kilometers away, whereas the Madurai Railway Station is 135 kilometers away. One can rent a cab, use of public transportation, or avail private buses from here.

By Bus

The best way to get to Munnar by road is to take a state-run or private bus from several locations in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation operates bus services to Munnar from all major cities in the state.
