Ooty

Of Mountains, Meadows, and Tea Plantations

Ootacumund or Ooty is a picturesque hill station nestled in the Nilgiris Blue Mountains. It stands at over 2,200 metres and has all the trappings of a charming hill town. With mild temperatures all year, Ooty has acquired the title of Queen of the Hills for its attractive setting amidst luscious green hills. Ootys colonial past is reflected in its bungalows and heritage structures, making it a popular tourist destination in southern India.

March-June: The summer season in Ooty stretches over March to June. The weather is often favourable during this time period, allowing you to go sightseeing and participate in other tourist activities during the day. The average temperature does not exceed 20 degree Celsius during the summer.

October-February: A chilly breeze blasts through town in October, although the daytime temperature remains cool and pleasant for sightseeing. Temperatures might drop below 5 degrees Celsius occasionally. Its worth noting that the coldest nights are in January and February.

How to reach?

By Air

The nearest domestic airport to Ooty is Coimbatore - about 88 kilometres away and well-connected to most Indian cities. You can also fly from Bangalore since the Bangalore airport is connected to almost all the major cities globally. Bangalore and Coimbatore are connected by regular flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.

By Train

Mettupalyam is 40 kilometres away and the closest railhead to Ooty. A vast railway network connects Mettupalyam to Chennai, Coimbatore, Mysore, and Bangalore.

By Bus

Ooty is a popular tourist destination in southern India. From Bangalore, Mysore, and Chennai, you can take both government and luxury buses to Ooty. These are overnight buses, and the ride is extremely comfortable.
