The nearest railway station to Pondicherry is in Villupuram, 44 km from the hostel. From here, trains run multiple times a week from major cities across India. Alternatively, you may board a train to the Chennai Central railway station or Chennai Egmore station which is 160 km from the hostel and then cover the rest of the way via bus/cab.
By Taxi
Pondicherry is well-connected with other cities via road. You can take a direct taxi from the following points:
Chennai Airport: It is at a distance of 140 km and a cab costs INR 1500-2000.
Chennai railway station: A cab costs INR 2500 for the 160 km journey.
Villupuram railway station: It is a distance of 50 km and a cab costs INR 1500-1700.
Pondicherry Airport: It is 9 km from the hostel and a cab costs INR 500.
By Bus
Regular buses ply to and fro major cities including Chennai, Bangalore, Trichy and Coimbatore.
If you are coming from the Bangalore side, deboard at Jipmer hospital which comes before the New Bus stand and is closer to the hostel. You may take an auto for the rest of the way for INR 350-400 and cover a distance of 9 km in about 15 mins.
If you are coming from the Chennai side, the buses take you to the Pondicherry New Bus stand or Auroville bus stand.
Pondicherry Bus stand: You may take an auto for the rest of the way for INR 350-400 for the 12 km journey.
Auroville Bus stand: An auto will take INR 150-200 for the 7-8 km journey.
